The Marking
The marking as an incident during the blood moon causing the appearance of the Lunar Mark.
Effects
During the night of the marking, many more moon stones fell onto earth than during a usual blood moon. These were also charged with more energy than they usually were, which lead to people not being able to handle the amounts of power. Most people started going mad from only the influence of the stones the broke down into grains of sand in the atmosphere. The result was a night of chaos where many cities were destroyed and people were killed. After the blood moon was over, these people were freed from the curse. Others were not so lucky, however. Anyone too close to bigger moon stones attracted them into their body where they embedded themselves, causing the curse known as werewolfism. These poor souls remained under the curses' influence indefinitely causing their bodies to morph and bringing them to madness. Every month during the full moon their transformations would intensify and they would lose all their sense of self. During these nights anyone caught by one of the wolves would be lucky to survive.
Apart from these curses, the land was also affected. Tides grew weaker and weaker bringing droughts to the lands that relied on them for agriculture, and even tough they never fully seized, every year was worse than the last. Even places without water shortages felt these effects. Crop yields grew thinner and thinner with similar effects taking place in the wilderness and other places, as if the land itself was starting to die.
Causes
During the night of the marking, a heated battle between the gods took place within the palace of Lunara. They were split between the ones influenced by Ryxos that wanted to imprison Lunara and destroy the moon and the side standing by Lunara withstanding the influence of Ryxos. The battle charged the moon with orders of magnitude more magical energy than ever before, which lead to more and bigger pieces of the moon breaking off and falling onto earth. Normally, most of these shards would dissolve into sand within the atmosphere or land somewhere, where they would be found and be used by the people of the lands, this time things were different. The pieces that did not dissolve were strong enough to embed themselves within anyone who came to close, driving them mad and bringing the curse of the mark upon them. And even the pieces that turned into sand still contained enough energy to cause a similar madness in most people there to witness them. Only few could escape the influence of these pieces, making this night into the night of carnage it is now known as.
