Sylven Corren

A Corpsevine scientist, specializing in observing wildlife and scouting.

Early Life

Being born in the Verdant Wilds, Sylven had many opportunities to obeserve a large variety of creatures even from a young age. She loved watching and studying them, creating detailed reports and drawings about the various creatures she found.

As she got older, she often visited Glimmervale where she met Thalen Cael, a famous scientist of the Liminal University. He realized her potential early, and took her under his wing, teaching her all she needed to know to be a scientist and to survive even when her small size was not enough to hide her presence.

Even before she was adult, she had already discovered her first species, the elusive Rootweaver. These elusive spiders rarely leave their underground tunnels, but with her unending patience and abilities to remain hidden, Sylven was the first to ever see one and document its behaviour.

Seeing her potential as an outstanding researcher, Thalen soon reached out to some of his contacts at the Layline Initiative looking to get her a researcher position. The response from the higher-ups was mixed, as many did not seem impressed by her accomplishments and did not like her having no formal education. But because of Thalen's long-standing connections to many of them, they allowed her to take an admission test.

After only barely passing, she was still granted a research position. As many were still not convinced Sylven really belonged at the Layline Initiative, she had to face many obstacles. Anything she did was looked over in very close detail, people looking for any reason to remove her. For a long time, the only reason she did not leave the Initiative were the many opportunities she got for simply being a member.

Even so, being constantly under harsh scrutiny got to her over time and she was contemplating leaving the Initiative and going back to the Verdant Wilds where life was easier. Only when she met Elaris Lumeveil, a Bloodbound hunter with similar research interests to hers. The two quickly became close friends and collaborated on many different projects. And because Elaris was already highly respected in the Initiative before she became a member, this also helped Sylven get less scrutiny allowing her to follow her studies in peace.
