Elaris was born in the Vaerwoods, in the small village of Tiravel. When she was still very young, the village got attacked by a pack of Nightstalkers, leaving it in ruins and killing many of the inhabitants, including both of her parents.

She was taken in and raised by Vealor and Lorien Leafstride. Early in her life she was already driven to find out what exactly happened during the attack, in particular why the Nightstalkers attaked her village in the first place. Finding no answers, nor even interesting information about the nightstalkers in the first place, she started to investigate herself.

Over the next years, Ealris trained herself to be a formidable hunter, allowing her to track and study nightstalkers more closely than anyone before. In that time, she described their behaviours in detail, which eventually led the Layline Initiative to take notice of her. They invited her to continue her studies, now with the support of the organisation, who was also interested in uncovering the mysteries of the nightstalkers. There she went on to meet Sylven Corren, a Corpsevine scientist with similar research interests to her own, and the two quickly became friends.
