Calzareth
The god of the arts, invention and creation, worshipped primarily by Cogbloods.
Appearance and Personality
Being mostly around Fleshcarved, and close friends with Volkaa, who himself primarily appears as a Runebearer, Calzareth's appearance naturally leans toward that of a Cogblood. But as these are non-flying creatures, travelling on their many flying contraptions for with Calzareth has no need, he likes adding wings to his form which also allows him to distinguish himself from his subjects.
Calzareth is a very calm and deliberate god, always considering all his options before taking an action. He is also very proud, believing himself to be extremely smart and above even many of the other lesser gods. As the god of arts and creation, he enjoys the many creations the higher beings have come up with, being especially impressed by the mechanical wonders created by the Cogbloods. Similarly, he enjoys intellectual stimulation, often engaging in debates with Xalthera, whom he views as the most intelligent of the lesser gods. This went as far as him developing a crush on her, trying to get her to be his lover. And while they did start a relationship for a time, it was very short-lived, Xalthera making it very clear he is too self-absorbed to ever have a fulfilling relationship with anyone. And while this did hurt him, he continued seeking more debates with her, loving the challenge she gave him.
History
He was one of the earliest of the lesser gods to come into existance, being awoken when the Cogbloods as the first race of higher beings discovered the wheel, kicking their civilization into high gear. Calzareth enjoyed watching their cities advance until they finally managed to perfect their flying machines, taking entirely to the skies. During that time, he also watched the other races developing their cultures and technology, though few were even nearly as interesting to him as the Cogbloods. For a while he took an interest in the Runebearers as well, admiring their skills with metals and gems. This is when he first met his best friend Volkaa, a young god born in the depths of the halls of Grundarimm. They spent a lot of time together, Calzareth guiding Volkaa on the path of godhood and introducing him to the other gods.
When he first heard whispers of Ryxos, he rejected them outright, not believing Lunara would have any evil intentions. But as he discussed them in Xalthera, who herself was surprisingly responsive to their lies, he slowly came around and became convinced of the dangers Lunara posed with her unchecked power. After Lyrax guided him to find Faeryn, the two of them, along with Xalthera, came up with their final plan to overthrow Lunara. When, after years of preparation, the night of The Marking, finally arrived, the usurping gods, led by Fearyn and Kalia, entered the palace of Lunara ready to put their plan into action. They started a huge fight, slowly but surely subduing the few gods standing by Lunara's side. As the battle continued, Calzareth found himself fighting his old friend Volkaa. No matter how hard he tried to convince him of the righteousness of their cause, Volkaa would not hear any of it, standing firmly by Lunara. In his anger, Calzareth finally managed to overpower him, only hesitating for a split second before landing the final blow on his former friend, watching the life leave his eyes right before him.
This then finally made him snap out of it, realizing all the lies he had believed until now. But as he cried out, trying to stop the unfolding events, he saw his realization came too late as he watched Kalia and Fearyn preform the final spell that would imprison Lunara, finishing the night just as he himself had planned. After that night he fell into a deep depression, regretting all his actions until now, cursing himself for ever listening to the lies of Ryxos. As penance, he even tried to visit the Runebearers and Infernals, taking over the responsibilities of his old friend. But his heart simply was no longer in it, watching these small creatures only served to remind him of his actions and he slowly stopped doing anything at all, drifting through the world watching the events he set into motion play themselves out.
