Lunara (Goddess)

The main goddess in the pantheon of Moonspire. In contrast to the other gods, almost all religions concur on her existance and what she did.

Appearance and Personality

Proud of her creations, Lunara has a body in the shape of each one of the Higher Beings, choosing any one of them for any particular day. often the various religious ceremonies taking place on moonspire influence this decision leading her to take the form closest to the ones leading the most recent ceremony. In particular, when a lunar passage (see Moongate) takes place, she often takes a form resembling the deceased for a week or more to honor their memory.

The only time when her appearance stays more consistent is during blue moons, when Kalia visits her. During this time, she always picks a very particular body, knowing its Kalia's favorite. This body is that of a Crescentborn. Her body is short but with broad hips, and small fins on the back of her arms and head.

Lunara is a very kind and warm-hearted person, seeing the good in everyone and hoping with the help of the lesser gods moonspire can eventually be a place free of any suffering. Some of the lesser gods take this as grandure and her being very full of herself, but most understand her and gain appreciation for her after they witness her first-hand.

The Creation Myth

According to the legend, Lunara created the earth with the help of the other gods. Who these gods are and what part they played in the creation is a topic of hot debate among different religions of Moonspire. What they do usually agree on, however, is that the earth and the moon were created when Lunara split the primordial nothingness into two pieces. This released enourmous amounts of energy she collected into the moon, making it illuminate the earth. She then tasked her two closest friends, Kalia and Faeryn with finishing the earth and fill them with life.

During this time, she and Kalia became lovers, much to the dismay of Faeryn, who himself was in love with Kalia. Once Kalia and Faeryn had populated the earth and the remaining lower gods were left to finish any smaller tasks left behind, Lunara returned to earth one last time, where she created the higher beings, This final meeting of the three gods of the Divine Triad led to a conflict between Faeryn and the other to, that only stopped when they realized how close they were to destroying all they had worked so hard to create. Afterwards, Faeryn left without a trace, leaving all earthly creatons under the supervision of Kalia. Both her and Kalia vowed at that day, to not interfere with earthly affairs ever again, knowing that unleashing their powers on the earth again would lead to disastrous consequences. This would later become evident during The Marking, where even the powers of lesser gods would become a danger to the planet. Instead, they would watch over them, trying to guide them onto the right path.

Lunara, intending to keep her vow, and scared of another altercation with Fearyn should he reappear, returned to her palace on the moon. There, Kalia would visit her every ten years in an event known as the blue moon.

The Moon

As Lunara has taken residence on the moon, people atrribute its nightly glow to her magic energy radiating from it. The moon cycles thus follow the strength of her powers. Whenever the moon is growing, her powers are charging up, in preparation for a full moon when she has reached her full power. This power is then released during the full moon energizing the planet for another mont. During this time the moon itself starts shrinking until it has become too small to make out in the sky, which is the day of new moon. From then she starts charging up her powers again and the cycle repeats.

In addition to the usual monthly cycle, there are also two special events happening in semi-regular cycles, the blood moon and the blue moon. The blood moon appears around every five years while the blue moon only appears every yen years.

Blood moons mark a meeting of the gods, their respective powers giving it its special color. Such an event gathers so much power into the full moon that shards are breaking off and raining down onto earth. These then corrode during their fall, mostly breaking down into small pieces of sand raining from the sky. Not only is such an event a beautiful sight to behold, it also charges the atmosphere with powerful magic, which allows some of the grandest spells that cannot be cast at other times. Not only that, but any remaining shards landing on earth are highly sought after magic crystals, known as Moon Stones that have many uses even outside of magic circles.

The blue moon is a more controversial event. While many agree this signifies the arrival of the goddess Kalia on the moon, creating a renewed union between these lovers, others do not even believe Kalia even exists. However, what is undeniable, is that the blue moon brings even more powerful magic to earth. As with the red moon, tiny particles of the now blue moon rain down on earth leading to a similar sight to the blood rains of a blood moon. Any moon stones generated during this rain are some of the rarest and most powerful items known to exist and are thus highly sought after.

The Marking

The last blood moon Lunara might ever witness was the night of the happening. For the first time since she returned to the moon after finishing her creation, she witnessed the arrival of her old friend Faeryn. Excited for a long awaited reunion of the Divine Triad and hopeful she could return to how things used to be she happily invited him in along with the other gods. But this party would not last long, as most of the other gods stood against her and accused her of the worst crimes imaginable. She supposedly had a plan to overthrow the order of the gods, kill her friends Faeryn and Kalia and rule over the earth, corrupting her own creation. But none of her pleading and explaining would sway any of them and so in the end, she and the few lower gods that remained by her side had to fight the other gods in an epic fight lasting multiple days. Even after all these years she was still far above in power than her peers and managed to hold her own, but she could never bring herself to actually and the life of a fellow god, so the fight had to rage on. Most of her supporters eventually fell and as Lunara stood on her own in a hopeless situation, she heard the whisper of Ryxos for the first time. They told her that her time is over and her entire creation will fall back into nothingness, everything she had done was for nothing and even her own friends have abandoned her. As she realized what had happened, she tried one last time to get through to her former friends and convince them all they had head from Ryxos were lies. But her efforts were fruitless, as Kalia and Faeryn lunged forward and seized her, while all others started casted a binding spell. Her screams echoed through her own castle as Lunara was sealed within.
